About  Village Costa Sur

If you want a decent-priced all-inclusive holiday where you will be looked after by wonderful people in a peaceful, romantic & truly inspirational setting, you should visit Village Costasur hotel.

Just outside both Playa Ancon & Trinidad, Costa Sur sits above a cove with a caramel-coloured beach & crystal clear waters, populated by fascinating tropical marine life. There is a real peaceful ambience about this place, from the picturesque beach to the distant magnificence of the Sierra Escambray Mountains.

Costa Sur is a medium-sized resort with everything within easy reach. It has undergone extensive recent renovation &, while you may find some areas still in need of TLC, the grounds & communal areas are clean & well maintained. There is a main swimming pool & separate paddling pool for children, with other activities including tennis, volleyball, a health spa & non-motorised beach watersports. The beach is also private so you can relax & enjoy the sun in peace, though snorkelling is recommended.

Apart from the magnificent location, your abiding memory of Costa Sur hotel will be its attentive, friendly & very helpful staff, who put great effort into a fun range of daytime activities & evening shows. The hotel’s 3 bars (lobby, pool & beach) serve excellent cocktails, while the nightlife of Trinidad is just a short taxi ride away. Costa Sur’s buffet & a la carte restaurants provide both variety & good quality food, while there is also a snack bar. Guests can also choose to eat outside & enjoy the stunning views from the a la carte restaurant’s patio.

Costa Sur is an older resort with a cosy, friendly charm. It will suit anyone looking for a relaxing, good-value holiday, particularly those who enjoy Cuban hospitality & stunning scenery.

Restaurante El Jigüe

Set in the Plazuela de Jigüe, a tiny plaza shaded by one tree, is this colorful and historic restaurant (dating from 1720). An elegant Colonial-style restaurant, probably the best of Trinidad's state-run restaurants, El Jigüe (hee-gweh) is a brightly lit, nearly formal dining room in a handsome, airy colonial house. Its bright interior has high ceilings, chandeliers, and landscapes hung on white walls. The menu ranges from bistec of grilled pork to lobster in a red sauce (enchilado de langosta). The specialty, pollo al jigüe, is a Cuban version of chicken cacciatore, which comes in a clay pot with pasta and cheese and is served with salad and coffee.

Canchánchara

Canchánchara is one of the oldest buildings in Trinidad, and combined architectural styles from the 18th and 20th centuries. There's frequently a live band playing in the shady patio, and there are always plenty of soft drinks, cold beer, and such Cuban cocktails as the mojito and the local specialty canchánchara (rum, lime juice, and honey) that will give you the energy to dance and enjoy the Cuban rhythms found in the place.

Fernando Hernández Echerri No. 83, Trinidad

Museo Nacional de Lucha Contra Bandidos (National Museum of the Struggle against Counter-Revolutionaries)

Located a block to the north of the Plaza Mayor in a former convent is the Museo Nacional de Lucha Contra Bandidos (National Museum of the Struggle against Counter-Revolutionaries). The museum exhibits documents the campaign to weed out rebels who hid in the Escambray mountains in the 1960s.

Calle Simón Bolívar, Trinidad

Palacio Cantero

A block south of Plaza Mayor stands the grand Palacio Cantero, built in 1830. It has a magnificent ladder and great neoclassical paintings performed by local and Italian artists. Painted pillars, scrolls, shells, pediments and drapes embellish the interior, eclipsing the historical artefacts and old furniture that now form the Trinidad's History Museum.
